The channel, created in 2011, has 287K subscribers, 363M+ views, and 3.8K videos, with an emphasis on Canadian content, but not to an extent that ignores events happening around the globe, especially in places like the United States and United Kingdom.

For someone like myself, who definitely falls under the category of being a political and history nerd, finding a YouTuber, who has a Ph.D. in history, that shares my political beliefs, is like finding a needle in a haystack. With Aivalis, I know he has researched the history behind the political and economic systems we live in today and can back up his opinions with facts from the past.

Aivalis’ channel has an extensive list of keywords that give you an idea of what types of subjects he talks about, from Canadian politics and history to labor unions and economics. A quick glance of his channel shows videos discussing the recent Canadian Federal Election 2019, the imprisonment of the former Brazilian President Lula da Silva, and the recent migrant crisis in the U.S.

One thing I appreciate about Aivalis is his ability to make educational videos entertaining. Many of his videos incorporate memes and jokes to keep the viewer engaged. As someone who identifies as a leftist, I do not find Aivalis to be promoting an extreme leftist bias on his channel. He acknowledges his political beliefs but does not shy away from criticizing politicians on the left when he believes they are in the wrong. For example, in a video titled “The Case Against Elizabeth May,” Aivalis criticizes May, the leader of Canada’s Green Party, for her stance on Israeli-Palestinian relations.
